How It Works
How we wash a roof in Plain City & Central Ohio.
Those black streaks running down a roof are not dirt, and they will not pressure wash off. They are Gloeocapsa magma, a hardy blue-green algae that feeds on the limestone filler in modern asphalt shingles. It establishes on the north-facing and shaded slopes first, which is why so many roofs are streaked on one side and clean on the other.
Pressure is the wrong tool entirely. It strips the granules that give a shingle its UV protection and its lifespan, and roofing manufacturers will void a warranty over it. What changes the price of a roof wash
Roof area and pitch set the baseline. Beyond that the biggest variable is what is growing — light streaking clears in a single application, while established lichen with a root structure into the shingle needs a longer dwell and a more careful rinse.

No, the opposite. Shingle manufacturers and the ARMA trade body recommend low-pressure soft washing and warn against high pressure, which strips the protective granules. Because we never put pressure on the shingles, your warranty stays intact.
How long does a clean roof stay clean?
Typically three to five years in Central Ohio, depending on shade and tree cover. Because our treatment kills the algae rather than blasting it off, regrowth is much slower than with a pressure-washed roof, where the organism is left alive in the surface.
Do you have to walk on my roof?
We keep off the shingles wherever we can, treating from ladders and the ground with low-pressure equipment. Walking a roof scuffs granules and risks damage, especially on older or brittle shingles. If access genuinely requires it, we tell you before we start.

Can you clean metal, cedar and tile roofs too?
Yes. Metal, asphalt shingle, cedar shake, slate and tile all clean up well with soft washing, though each takes a different mix and dwell time. Cedar in particular needs a gentler solution so the wood isn't bleached out.
